The trek to Prashar Lake is a mesmerizing journey through dense forests, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes. As trekkers ascend, they are treated to panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, including prominent peaks like Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal, and Kinnaur Kailash.

Upon reaching Prashar Lake, trekkers are greeted by the tranquil waters reflecting the majestic mountains that encircle it. The lake is adorned with a floating island, believed to change position periodically, adding to its mystical allure.

Surrounding the lake is the Prashar Rishi Temple, dedicated to the sage Prashar, which dates back to the 13th century. The temple’s pagoda-style architecture, adorned with intricate wood carvings, adds to the charm of the setting.

Visitors can spend time exploring the area around the lake, taking in the serene ambiance, and capturing the beauty of the landscape through photography. Many choose to camp overnight by the lakeside, under the blanket of stars, experiencing the tranquility of the Himalayan wilderness.

Itinerary

  • Depart from Delhi in the morning.
  • Drive to Mandi, Himachal Pradesh (approx. 450 km).
  • Elevation: Delhi (approx. 700 feet), Mandi (2,400 feet).
  • Reach Mandi by late afternoon or evening.
  • Check into a hotel and rest for the night.
  • Have breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart for Prashar Lake by road (approx. 50 km).
  • Elevation: Prashar Lake (8,960 feet).
  • Start the trek from Baggi Village (base point for Prashar Lake trek).
  • Trek through lush forests and scenic landscapes.
  • Enjoy packed lunch on the way.
  • Reach Prashar Lake by late afternoon or early evening.
  • Explore the surroundings and visit Prashar Rishi Temple.
  • Set up camp near the lake.
  • Elevation: Prashar Lake (8,960 feet).
  • Enjoy dinner around the campfire and stargazing.
  • Overnight camping at Prashar Lake.
  • Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the lake.
  • Have breakfast at the campsite.
  • Pack up and start the downhill trek back to Baggi Village.
  • Elevation: Prashar Lake (8,960 feet), Baggi Village (6,000 feet).
  • Reach Baggi Village and board the vehicle for the return journey to Delhi.
  • Elevation: Baggi Village (6,000 feet), Delhi (approx. 700 feet).
  • Stop for lunch on the way.
  • Arrive in Delhi by late evening.

Preparation Guide

  • Engage in regular cardiovascular exercises like hiking, jogging, or cycling to build stamina and endurance.

  • Incorporate strength training exercises to strengthen leg muscles and core stability.

  • Practice hiking with a loaded backpack to simulate trekking conditions.

  • Plan for at least a day or two of acclimatization in Mandi or nearby areas before starting the trek.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
  • Ascend gradually and listen to your body’s signals to recognize symptoms of altitude sickness.
  • Clothing: Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing suitable for layering, including thermal innerwear, fleece jackets, waterproof and windproof outer layers, trekking pants, and woolen socks.
  • Footwear: Invest in sturdy, well-fitted trekking boots with ankle support and good traction.
  • Gear: Bring a comfortable backpack with padded shoulder straps, a rain cover, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated for low temperatures, a lightweight tent or shelter, a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries, a multi-tool or knife, and a first aid kit.
  • Accessories: Carry a wide-brimmed hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, a water bottle or hydration pack, water purification tablets or filter, quick-drying towel, and toiletries.
  • Personal Items: Don’t forget essentials like identification documents, permits, cash, camera or smartphone for capturing memories, and any prescribed medications
  • Familiarize yourself with the trekking route, terrain, and weather conditions to mentally prepare for the challenges ahead.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, stay motivated, and be adaptable to changes in the itinerary or weather conditions.
