Itinerary
- Altitude: 11,560 ft – 10,490 ft – 11,160 ft
- Distance: 60 km drive, 7 km trek
- Duration: 2 hours drive, 2-3 hours trek
- Start from Leh and travel to Chilling, crossing the Zanskar river via trolley bridge or new bridge.
- Begin trekking from Chilling towards Skiu, passing through a steep climb initially and then a relatively flat walk along the Markha river.
- Overnight stay at Skiu.
- Altitude: 11,160 ft – 12,370 ft
- Distance: 20 km
- Duration: 6-7 hours
- Trek along the riverbed of Markha river, passing through barley fields and thickets.
- Cross icy waters of Markha river twice.
- Pass through villages like Sara and Chalak.
- Overnight stay at Markha village.
- Altitude: 12,370 ft – 13,100 ft
- Distance: 11 km
- Duration: 4-5 hours
- Enjoy scenic views of Kang Yatse as you trek through upper Markha valley.
- Cross Markha river and hike up to Umlung.

- Distance: 12 km
- Duration: 5-6 hours
- Ascend to Kongmaru La pass and enjoy panoramic views.
- Descend steeply into a narrow canyon and reach Sukarmo.
- Continue trekking to Chokdo village, passing through a descending trail.
- Overnight stay at Chokdo.
- Altitude: 12,810 ft – 12,140 ft – 11,560 ft
- Distance: 5 km trek, 50 km drive
- Duration: 2 hours trek, 2 hours drive
- Trek to Shang Sumdo, a flat walk along the river bed.
- Travel back to Leh by taxi or bus, with a possible visit to Hemis monastery en route.
- Overnight stay in Leh.
- Spend the day exploring Leh, visiting local markets, monasteries, or indulging in adventure activities like rafting or mountain biking.
- Departure from Leh as per your schedule.

Preparation Guide

- Clothing: Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing suitable for layering, including thermal innerwear, fleece jackets, waterproof and windproof outer layers, trekking pants, and woolen socks.
- Footwear: Invest in sturdy, well-fitted trekking boots with ankle support and good traction.
- Gear: Bring a comfortable backpack with padded shoulder straps, a rain cover, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated for low temperatures, a lightweight tent or shelter, a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries, a multi-tool or knife, and a first aid kit.
- Accessories: Carry a wide-brimmed hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, a water bottle or hydration pack, water purification tablets or filter, quick-drying towel, and toiletries.
