Standing at an elevation of 15,100 feet (4,600 meters), Goechala provides adventurers with a panoramic vista of majestic Himalayan giants, including the towering Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world.
The trek to Goechala is a journey through diverse landscapes, from lush rhododendron forests to rugged mountain terrain. As trekkers ascend higher, they are treated to breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks, glacial valleys, and pristine alpine lakes. One of the highlights of the Goechala trek is the sunrise view from the vantage point near the Goechala Pass. - Trek from Yuksom to Sachen.
- Trek Distance: 7.50 km.

- Altitude Gain: From 5,840 ft to 7,400 ft.
- Moderate-difficult gradient with gradual climb for 2.5 hours, then steeper ascent to Sachen.
- Carry 2 liters of water from Yuksom, refill at streams along the way.
- Trek from Sachen to Tshoka via Bakhim.
- Trek Distance: 6.50 km.
- Trek Duration: 5.5 hours.
- Altitude Gain: From 7,400 ft to 9,790 ft via 8,640 ft.
- Moderate gradient with rolling terrain, followed by steep ascent from Bakhim.
- Carry sufficient water from Sachen.

- Carry water from Thansing, no water sources on the way.
- Trek from Thansing to Tshoka via Kokchurang and Phedang.

- Continuous ascent to Kokchurang, then relatively flat trail to Phedang and steep descent to Tshoka.

- Trek from Tshoka to Yuksom via Bakhim and Sachen.

Preparation Guide
Engage in regular cardiovascular exercises like hiking, jogging, or cycling to build stamina and endurance.
Incorporate strength training exercises to strengthen leg muscles and core stability.
Practice hiking with a loaded backpack to simulate trekking conditions.
- Plan for at least a day or two of acclimatization in Yuksom or nearby areas before starting the trek.
- Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
- Ascend gradually and listen to your body’s signals to recognize symptoms of altitude sickness.
- Clothing: Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing suitable for layering, including thermal innerwear, fleece jackets, waterproof and windproof outer layers, trekking pants, and woolen socks.
- Footwear: Invest in sturdy, well-fitted trekking boots with ankle support and good traction.
- Gear: Bring a comfortable backpack with padded shoulder straps, a rain cover, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated for low temperatures, a lightweight tent or shelter, a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries, a multi-tool or knife, and a first aid kit.
- Accessories: Carry a wide-brimmed hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, a water bottle or hydration pack, water purification tablets or filter, quick-drying towel, and toiletries.
- Personal Items: Don’t forget essentials like identification documents, permits, cash, camera or smartphone for capturing memories, and any prescribed medications
